Last night I ran. Well, maybe not to the same standard laid out by the definition of “running” on Wikipedia.org – but I was definitely not plodding. LOL!
For those of you who know me, I’ve never been a runner. My nickname “Moose” is one of endearment of course – but truthfully its because I run just like one of those beasts. And believe me, if you were to see me run you would find it extremely comical. Well laugh at me no more! I’m going to learn to run, even if it kills me…
Last night was my first night of a 10-week “learn to run a 10k” clinic at the White Rock / South Surrey Running Room store. By the end of this 10-week clinic I should be proficient enough to handle running 10km without whimpering.
The first night was insightful. The clinic leader explained the format for the clinic and what I can expect over the next 10-weeks. We will be covering many fundamentals about running including technique and pacing as well as build up distances so that by the end I can expect to go out and run 10km. I found it funny that upon entering the store initially I was ogled by a few of the members, the leader as well, questioning how fit I looked. It was almost as if they thought I wasn’t meant to be there… I am flattered if that was the initial opinion, but I can assure you once we got out on our run, they knew without a doubt I was at the right place! The Moose is Loose!
Last night I ran about 3.5km – not a ton, but was definitely enough. My hips are tight and glutes/hamstrings sore this morning… I’m stretching people – believe me! I’ll be blogging about my experience with the clinic over the next 10-weeks…
And maybe, just maybe, I might upload a video of my funny looking run style.
Congratulations on learning to run! I started in 2004, and still love it dearly.
One thing you might consider for those tight hips is yoga. I was out for 4 months with an IT band injury, and then I found yoga. I’m thrilled to say I haven’t had a problem since.
I look forward to reading about your journey!
