A Paleo burger, a Grind, Kits Day WOD, pool party and a run-in with Murph

Every once in a while we are fortunate to be (for lack of a better word) blessed with a perfect weekend.  For me, that happened to be my last three days with my family and friends.

Friday was a work day, but when 5 pm came around it was weekend time.  After hitting Nancy at Crossfit Kitsilano (FYI - " Nancy " is a workout) Fynn, Christie and me with girls in tow, went to Romer's for a Man's Man Burger.  This place is amazing, and with something for everyone, whether vegetarian or Paleo like me you will not be disappointed.  Just ask for any burger "green" and they'll be happy to serve it sans-bun in a head of lettuce.   Making it even more appealing is that Romer's uses organic, grass-fed, free range beef in all the burgers.  So awesome!  Trust me and just go here next time you are trying to figure what you want for dinner... and go "green".

Saturday morning I awoke bright and early with the sun shinning through our wide-open windows.  The sky was clear blue and water was calm.  It was a perfect day for my 4th ascent of the Grouse Grind with the Fitness Town Summit Seekers.  We had our largest turn-out yet with 11 of us gathering together to climb the Grouse Grind as part of our fundraising initiative for BC Children's Hospital.  We'd love it if you come and join us, but if that isn't in the cards, we are more than happy to accept your pledges or donations to help us reach our fundraising goal. (you can pledge or give online here )

Next stop, Fitness Town Kitsilano for Khatsalano Days.  This 1-day event features a street festival, curb side garage sale, bands performing at 1 of 5 stages and a closure that spans 8 blocks of 4th Avenue in Vancouver.  It was nearly Noon and the sun was in full view, bringing thousands of people to the street festival.  The CrossFit Kitsilano team, led by Fynn Mulligan, teamed up with Fitness Town to put on a Crossfit demonstration outside the store.   It was a quick little workout featuring burpees, sumo deadlift high pulls, double unders and 2-arm kettlebell swings.  All in all it was a great event and helped spread the good word about Crossfit and Fitness Town.  Below is a quick little video I put together with a few highlights from the event.

Next on the agenda... Lunch, then a pool party with my girls and the Pure Athletics team.  Great event, delicious food and fantastic people... pure awesomeness in an afternoon.

Sunday was a stellar day too.  Met up with some new friends at Kits Beach bright and early Sunday morning for a CrossFit throw-down.  The Workout... " Murph!"  It's been a while since I last tried my luck at this classic hero WOD, but with the beautiful weather, fresh beach air and cool breeze blowing on my face, I knew that I had a good time ready to manifest itself.

For those of you, not familiar with who "Murph" is, check out one of my earlier posts here.

My time, a new PR, was 35:07.

And of course, making the day absolutely perfect I spent the next 8 hours walking around Yaletown, English Bay and surrounding areas lounging in the Sun with my beautiful wife and kiddies... could I ask for anything more?

Well, maybe a massage and a couple of Advil for my aching body, but other than that it was a stellar weekend.
