Power Cleaning (and no, not around the house)

The Moose is Loose (and a new PR always helps)

Sometimes I just get the urge to throw some steel (or in this case, rubber) around.  Lifting days are therapeutic for me.  There are times when I have the need to sweat, so a nice metabolic conditioning workout does the trick, but there’s something to be said about the primal instinct in all of us to pickup something heavy and throw it around.  Well, at least for me that is. ;-)

Today’s workout at Crossfit Vancouver was a beauty which joined a bit of both elements.

Warm-up:  Burpee Ladder (15 minutes)

On the first minute complete a burpee, 2nd minute 2 burpees, 3rd minute 3 burpees… and so on to 15 minutes.  Believe me, by the 10th minute you are wishing it was over. LOL!

Technique:  Work on power cleans

WOD:  1 rep max power clean

I spent 20 minutes warming up my cleans eventually hitting a new PR at 265lbs.  This is 20lbs better than my previous best.  I tried 275lbs for 2 attempts and was really close on the 2nd, but just didn’t get under the bar/elbows through quick enough.  Next time for sure!

So, if you are feeling a little primal, go lift some heavy stuff…
