Time to suck it up Buttercup (belief goes both ways)

Time to suck it up Buttercup (belief goes both ways)

‎"Your level of optimism is determined by how you explain things to yourself. Think positively." ~ Brian Tracy

Isn't it funny how sometimes the advice we share with others should be said to ourselves?  At times I catch myself saying negative sideways comments which serve no one, especially me.  Nothing is ever gained by "poor me" thinking or externalizing blame on outside forces.  Sometimes, as ancient proverb says, I should just "suck it up, Buttercup!"

Suck it up buttercup

I hurt my right knee and it has bugged me a bit when lifting above my 60% max range.  This sucks.  I hate it.  I feel low.

Just a few days ago a friend of mine messaged me with concerns about his recently torn hamstring and I wrote the below reply (note, I think I was writing it to myself):

Brother, injuries happen... I hate them, they kill me too. But like all things, with time they heal. That was a tough pill to swallow and one I still battle when I hurt myself. I'm dealing with a nagging knee problem (inflamed patella tendon) and it's driving me nuts... I feel for your situation, in particular with the timing of everything. My man, so you know you will be better quickly.

Keep your head in the game, dial in your nutrition, work your MOB... the last 15 months has been full of ups and downs for me too. But when I look back on all the steps back and steps forward, honestly I'm way further ahead then I was 15 months ago... keep that in mind. It's nature of CrossFit and competitive minded people like you and me... we always push ourselves to those limits and sometimes overstep them and cause ourselves injuries... this too shall pass.

Anyway, brother, R.I.C.E. and let the inflammation subside and keep working what movements you can do now...

Don't be bummed, shake that mindset and get back to being positive.   You got this!

... yeah, like I said, I need to suck it up and get my head in the game.  Time to get after it!
