Sometimes 70 percent effort is 100 percent mental

This week was a tough one.  


I took Monday and Tuesday off post-competing in last week's competition and even with 2 days off still felt somewhat drained.  Hats off to Jesse who programmed the Cretus Ex Duellum competition last weekend, the midnight WOD's were unexpected and definitely in line with the CrossFit definition: "Constantly varied, functional movements, executed at high-intensities!"  More on last week's competition coming soon in the next couple of days.

Sometimes I find it hard to pull-back and work at lighter loads.  Hey, I CrossFit and I'm a competitive guy especially when competing against myself.  But one thing I'm learning is that at times you have to pull it back and respect what are body is saying.  This week my body was screaming at me!  LOL! And so for once in my life I listened and went at everything at about 70%.  And honestly, I feel great for it today, almost a week later.

I truly believe that holding back and going at 70 percent effort is 100 percent mental for me.  And that's where great coaches come in.  Their voice trumps the little voices in our heads and tells what's what.  Listen to them!  (yes, I'm learning this too)

Do you ever find it hard to hold back?  Take a rest day?

I managed to get 9 rounds plus 9 reps.

I completed the round of 15/15 with seconds to spare.

B) WOD:  12 min AMRAP

  • 6 Chest to Bar Pullups

  • 9 burpees with lateral hop over bar

  • 12 OH squats (95/65)


I finished 7 rounds plus 4 CTB pull-ups.
