Are athletes really getting faster, better, stronger?
This morning I watched this video and couldn't help but think, WOW, Things have changed a lot over the past 75 years. Have a watch and share your thoughts in the comment section below.

David Epstein's TedTalk: Are Athletes Really Getting Faster, Better, Stronger ?

[ted id=1986]

Synopsis: When you look at sporting achievements over the last decades, it seems like humans have gotten faster, better and stronger in nearly every way. Yet as David Epstein points out in this delightfully counter-intuitive talk, we might want to lay off the self-congratulation. Many factors are at play in shattering athletic records, and the development of our natural talents is just one of them.

What role does supplementation play in the world of an athlete's performance?

Something to note, when Jesse Owens, Roger Banister and many other athletes of history, never had a post workout "protein" shake, or a recovery supplement period. They'd sit down, eat some food and call it a night. Over the years with the advancements in science, new supplements come to market often. In the competitive world of sports, the smallest advantage can make an enormous difference in the outcome of a contest. A substance that improves an athlete's strength, speed, or endurance is called an ergogenic aid.

There are a number of banned substances which have been ruled out on the basis that it gives competitors an unfair advantage. Over the past decade there's been a great deal of controversy on this subject. Today I'm not going to discuss that, however, if that's a topic that interests you, let me know.

As per NYU Langone Medical Center, there's...

"... numerous other supplements are marketed as ergogenic aids, said to improve speed, strength, or endurance. Unfortunately, the evidence that they work is marginal at best, and in many cases the best available evidence indicates that these substances are not effective."

Over the past couple of months I've trialed X 2 PERFORMANCE - a recovery supplement that assists with a number of things as it relates to training. As you know from my earlier posts, getting older sucks , but I'm happy to report that I've seen a significant difference in my recovery and endurance since adding in X2 to my training regiment.

I recognize and admit that the placebo effect is common in the supplement industry, so I invite you to do the same thing I did... trial it for free, see if it works and if it does, send me a virtual high-five in thanks.

Keep me posted on how it goes!

Sometimes it is in the form of products, or services or even money… But here’s the thing; I won’t  share anything with you that I don’t fully support. It doesn't matter what it is, or how much they are willing to give me, if I don’t believe in it, It won’t be on my site. Seriously. You’ll just have to trust me on this.”   ~ Moose
