What's holding you back from doing more in life? It's Time to Do More

What's holding you back from doing more in life? It's Time to Do More
On September 15th we, a group of Sunday Funday warriors, hiked to the top of the second peak of Squamish BC's Stawamus Chief. While it was only a half-day of hiking, we took in enough breath-taking vistas to fill a week's worth. You may be wondering what's the "Why" for our hike?  The answer... just because... to just do it.

Our cry of "DoMore" echoed off the valley floor... we just "DID IT!"

The day started overcast with slight beads of rain dripping here and there - typical for Vancouver this time of year. As we traveled north along the Sea-to-Sky highway, we saw pockets of blue sky and sunshine. Fingers crossed as we neared the tiny town of Squamish that we'd be fortunate to have a window of blue sky to call our own. Someone was looking down on us as we got more than we could have hoped. A bit about the Squamish Stawamus Chief:

The Chief towers high above the town of Squamish and is a popular hiking destination that offers scenic views of Howe Sound and several mountains in Garibaldi Provincial Park. Hikers can complete all three peaks of the Chief in a day or just choose to do a shorter trip to the South Peak that still offers a spectacular view. (care of VancouverTrails.com )

There are three main summit areas:

  • First Peak  or the  South Summit  (610 m (2,001 ft))

  • Second Peak  or the  Centre Summit  (655 m (2,149 ft))

  • Third Peak  or the  North Summit  (702 m (2,303 ft))

Each summit features an expanse of fine  glacier-polished  granite and the promise of incredible views in all directions. Third Peak is a bit more remote and isolated and is less popular with tourists.

An additional summit area lies to the north of all the summits. This area is called the  Zodiac Summit . Although it can be considered a sub-summit of Third Peak, it is perhaps the most isolated area of the Chief. No proper trail leads to the Zodiac Summit; there are only faint tracks here and there among the trees.

Our arms were wide as we welcomed anyone wanting to experience what it was like " to do that one more thing" and to live the Do:More philosophy for a day. The Chief, amazing views and all, is unparalleled (arguably one of the most incredible views in Canada).  32 of us hiked the Chief that day. A diverse group consisting of all ages, shapes and sizes, and physical abilities, BUT one thing we all had in common was our attitude to #DoMore. Everyone felt an extreme sense of accomplishment for following through and completing the hike, as well as an incredible feeling of community and support were experienced that Sunday morning.  Friendships were strengthened and created. Self worth, empowerment and joy were increased as we traversed back down the 2100ft and enjoyed an unexpected glass of lemonade from this group of little girls raising funds for cancer research. Special thanks to JS for your generosity and hooking the entire crew up with a tasty treat!

Special thanks to Degree for reaching out to me to sponsor this Do:More event.  It was a natural fit for me to help get the word out about the Do:More philosophy. The philosophy is perfectly in line with some of my own personal beliefs, as well to be given the opportunity to organize and expose the #SundayFunday family to a Do:More moment and life experience is magical.  We all  created an experience we'll remember forever.
"Success is the doing, not the getting; in the trying, not the triumph. Success is a personal standard, reaching for the highest that is in us, becoming all that we can be. If we do our best, we are a success." ~ Zig Zigglar

DO:MORE is a philosophy, a rallying cry for those who want to devour life and all that it brings. It is a motivator for doers everywhere and a reminder to us all that we should maximize every moment, commit to those things that move us and to pursue our passions with an unrelenting hunger.

  • A doer is anybody, young or old, male or female, who’s always on the lookout for the next opportunity to push their life forward.

  • It’s someone who makes things happen rather than waits for things to happen to them. Someone who challenges themselves to go further, who defines success on his or her own terms according to what’s important to them.

  • A doer is someone who sets goals, focuses on the future and stays positive. Who lives with no regrets. Who shows determination and puts in the effort to achieve—not to impress others but for their own self-worth.

  • A doer is someone who doesn't only dream—they get on and do it. And they enjoy the ride. It’s someone who understands that doing new things makes life more interesting and reveals new horizons.

  • A doer is someone who cares about relationships and connecting with others. A game-maker who’s the natural hub of their family and social circles. Someone always on the go, and who looks at life’s natural pauses not only as an opportunity to ask “What’s next?”, but to plan their next journey.

WHAT IS THE DO:MORE RALLYING CRY?

We don’t believe life is something to be endured.

Life is meant to be done.

There are those who live by this code every day,

we hope to inspire more of them.

We all have the opportunity to devour life,

to get out of our comfort zone,

try something outrageous,

challenge ourselves,

and inspire others;

to amp up our days and maximize our lives.

We all have the opportunity to do more of these things that move us,

and pursue our passions with dynamism and gusto.

All we have to do is look for them.

Or let them find us.

Degree seeks to inspire with a simple mantra: More.

What you can Do: More.

More living, more action, more commitment, more extraordinary,

especially with Degree to support you.

So do brave.

Do spontaneous.

Do audacious.

Do every day like it really matters.

Degree

DO:MORE
