"What the heck?"

... was not my real response( that's the PG version ) when I heard word that Shape Magazine chose me as a "top 50 trainer" a few months ago.   Honestly, to be chosen "top 50" of anything is mind-blowing for me.   Growing up obese for a better part of my developmental years had a profound effect on me.  Anyone who has lost a lot of weight knows all to well the emotional and physical setbacks that comes with big weight loss, but for those of you that don't, realize that psychologically for many years I still thought of myself as the " fat kid ".

It wasn't an overnight process.  Long hours of feeding my mind with positive messaging, valuable and constructive information, seeking out mentors, and most importantly staying true to my commitment to eat less and move more . I'm not perfect by any means and it isn't an ideal that I shoot for - I'm riddled with faults.  I make a lot of mistakes, but I'm quick to acknowledge when I'm wrong; I strive to make it right; and recognize these moments of error as opportunities to further grow as a husband, a father, a friend and a fellow Human-being.  It's worked well for me up to this point.

What about you?

A few questions for you to think about:

  1. Do you follow any internal rules or guidelines?

  2. What do you do to continue your personal growth?

  3. Do you have an ideal that you shoot for?
