Sunday Funday WOD: The #PropelFit “Dirty 30” Chipper

Sunday Funday WOD: The #PropelFit “Dirty 30” Chipper
Propel Fit Sunday Funday 14In January, I announced my excitement to be included as 1 of 5 Propel Brand Ambassadors. Propel, for those of you who don’t know, is the Workout Water for people who are passionate about fitness to ensure they can hydrate pre/post and during every workout (it comes in 3 forms: Propel Water, Propel Powder and Propel Liquid Water Enhancer).

Propel challenged me to design a fun and exciting team workout for the Sunday Funday tribe. The workout was to be dynamic, exciting and engaging, and of course, nothing less than awesome.

I’m happy to say we nailed it!

Of course we taxed ourselves with a great workout, then re-hydrated with Propel water containing vitamin B, and antioxidant vitamins C & E (and best of all, no calories or artificial flavors) – re-hydrate, replenish, WOD on, repeat! Bam!

The Workout: #PropelFit “Dirty 30” Chipper

For time complete the following…

  • 30 x Burpee / box step over

  • 30 x wall ball shots to a 10 or 9ft target

  • 30 yard farmer carry with a challenging weight

  • 30 x push-ups

  • 30 x sit-ups

  • 30 x kettlebell swings

  • 30 yard walking lunges with either a 25 or 45lbs weight plate overhead

Being part of a community like Sunday Funday is like being part of a tribe. Fortunately I count myself lucky to be a member of a number of tribes that make up the community of my life. Are you part of a tribe ?

What makes up a ‘tribe’?

Seth Godin best described the concept during a TEDx Talk when he said:

Propel Fit Sunday Funday 02

A tribe is a group of people connected to one another, connected to a leader, and connected to an idea. For millions of years, human beings have been part of one tribe or another. A group needs only two things to be a tribe: a shared interest and a way to communicate.”

The most significant benefits of being part of a tribe is accountability, empathy, and an overall feeling of belonging. Two years ago my wife, Christie and I began to host Sunday Funday fitness sessions at Fitness Town. In the beginning classes were small in numbers, usually only seeing 6 to 8 people per workout. This continued for a few weeks, but as people started to share the ‘why’ behind the classes, others wanted to come. People wanted results, wanted their health to improve, but more than anything they wanted a team of like-minded people to hold them accountable to change. And the tribe does this.

Within a few short months we expanded to 3 classes every Sunday morning. Now two years later, we continue to run 3 or 4 classes every Sunday at Fitness Town (Burnaby), sharing passion, motivation and accountability with 50 to 70 people. We live life fully with a core belief that health is the cornerstone upon which the foundation of life can be erected.  Our Sunday Funday tribe gets that.

The #PropelFit Tribe

One of the many reasons I joined the #PropelFit tribe was the defining characteristics shared among us. Propel Brand Ambassadors are:

“…real people; informed; interested in sharing the journey; relatable, raw and genuine; sometimes intense but grounded in reality; personable, honest and fun; interested in a well-balanced life, and long-term health; driven by individual, internal goals; and ultimately, are about more than the gym – family, friends, travel – fitness is a means to allow one to enjoy life more fully.”

My tribal teammates include Presley of Run Pretty Blog, Theodora the Preppy Runner , Jon from Extreme Workout and Lee the creator of FitFoodieFinds.com – all inspire me to be better, hold me accountable to helping others by way of spreading the message of what it means to enjoy life more fully.

Can I get a “HOO-RAH!”?

So what happens when two tribal philosophies overlap?

Awesomeness. That’s what happens – pure unadulterated awesomeness to the nth degree.

The meeting between Propel and Sunday Funday was amazing. Results were achieved and new friendships were celebrated.

Lifestyles are redesigned to find a cohesive balance between mind, body and spirit. Tribal communities can be the glue... just try it!

Want to be part of the #PropelFit ‘tribe’? Can’t get more awesome than that can it? Well, YES, it can… follow along and interact with your fellow tribe members online with Propel and the rest of the Propel Ambassadors on  FacebookTwitter  and  Instagram.
