Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable: #PropelFit Challenge Accepted

Comfort zones - we all have them.

They are those little pockets of warmth and familiarity in which we curl up into tiny balls and stay. For many of us - me included - this is things as they are. And such is our lives, routine day-in, day-out tasks that are automatic in the doing, very safe and unchallenged in nature, requiring very little thought or planning. That’s the ‘comfort zone’.

Feeling Uncomfortable Is Normal

That is until we do something that completely shakes up our routines, creating mass chaffing in our little warm pockets of life.

It’s the urge to do something spontaneous, to do something without worry or care of how you do it, recognizing that it’s going to be hard at first, just like anything is the first time you try. But, I ask you, when have you experienced some of the most growth in your own life?

For me that’s simple, every time I've been challenged by something new and exciting, whether I knew what I was doing or not, has pushed me into a state of greatest clarity and focus. I call it my “grow-zone”. From these moments of fearful uncertainty, which borders with the unknown, I've achieved some of my most memorable results in my life.

Finding the sweet spot: What’s your “Grow Zone” ?

As I write this post, I remember when a fitness colleague challenged me to come and try something called “CrossFit”. I was sheepish and noncommittal, always skirting the invite until one day I decided to take him up on it. Something in me screamed, “try it! What do you have to lose?” And as scared as I was, based on everything I YouTube’d, I went. It was hard. Halfway through my baseline testing I wanted to quit - I was WAY OUTSIDE my Comfort Zone, but I persevered. I finished the workout (or maybe in hindsight, it finished me)... that was 6 years ago and it has completely transformed my outlook on fitness and lifestyle. Just think, had I not accepted the challenge to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable, I would never have even started the Moose Is Loose . Crazy to think that so much has come from a sudden choice to go for it.

Studeo55 Propel Challenge Drive Spin Class with the Moose

Propel Challenged me… and I accepted!

Propel challenged me to try something new and outside my comfort zone. To be honest, I've gotten used to my CrossFit lifestyle and form of training. It has become just who I am, but I lack   the sense of being uncomfortable. And you know me well enough to know, I’m always up for a challenge. This week I opted for a high-intensity, spin class at Studeo55. The “Drive” class, led by Coach Jana is full-on, high-intensity interval training… I had butterflies in my stomach, a weird taste in my mouth, and second guessing myself every chance I could… thankfully I could wash it down with my Propel water… but once the tunes got cranking, coach yelling and the participants hollering, it was on! And honestly, it was nothing short of awesome. Check the video below to get a glimpse into my Drive experience.

I think da Vinci said it best...
Life is pretty simple: You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing something else.

What’s that one thing you've been on the fence to committing to? That one thing that makes your stomach a bit uneasy with the thought of doing it. What’s the “something else” in your life now?

I challenge you, like Propel challenged me, to get out of your head and get into the “ grow zone ”...

Sometimes it is in the form of products, or services or even money… But here’s the thing; I won’t  share anything with you that I don’t fully support. It doesn't matter what it is, or how much they are willing to give me, if I don’t believe in it, It won’t be on my site. Seriously. You’ll just have to trust me on this.”   ~ Moose
