Exercise and Eating smart is key for long-term weight management

Exercise and Eating smart is key for long-term weight management
The More Philosophy - A Christmas guide to healthy living Many people are searching for a magic formula that will help them to lose weight. Although it may not be very magical, there is a way to lose the weight you want, and it’s far simpler than you may think.

All it takes is to have an organized method to follow. However, there is a caveat; you can lose weight when you burn more calories than you consume, but the speed at which this occurs is different for everyone. That means that some may find it more frustrating than others to lose the weight they want, because it takes time to structure a healthy diet and decide on an ideal amount of exercise. It’s this frustration that causes many to give up on their weight loss goals before they even begin to pursue them.

The Role of Exercise in Weight Loss (aka Weight Release)

weight-loss-nutrition-loveAnyone wishing to lose weight should first have an understanding of the relationship between calories and exercise. We all know that activities like running will burn a lot of calories. But how exactly will exercise work for you? And how much exercise do you need to compensate for poor food choices?

Anyone wishing to understand how exercise affects their weight loss should do a workout that’s been designed to burn calories consumed by a favorite food of theirs. The amount of exercise required to do this will vary from person to person because people burn calories at different rates.

For example, if your favorite fruit is a banana - which has about 100 calories – complete some form of exercise until your body has burned 100 calories. How long it takes to burn those calories will depend on your age, current weight, and intensity of movement. But, on average, a 100 calorie workout will range from five to 20 minutes.  Now imagine how long you would have to exercise to burn, say, 700 or 800 calories.

The numbers don’t lie; if you are consuming a high-calorie diet, then exercising it away can be nearly impossible for the average person.

Never Underestimate the Power of the Calorie

Not only is it important to fully understand how much exercise is needed to burn calories, but it’s also crucial to know how many calories are in your favorite meals. Many people are not aware of the latter, nor are they aware of how many calories they consume in one day. And not knowing is one of the most common reasons why people abandon their weight loss goals. However, it can be easier to have an honest record of your caloric intake if you keep a food journal and track everything you eat.

The Exercise Advantage

exercise is keyAlthough exercising isn't enough to cure overeating, it does offer several benefits. A major benefit of exercise is that it can make weight loss easier. It also helps you lose weight faster as well as providing your body with a long-term metabolic boost. This boost allows your body to use food more efficiently, even when it is at rest.

Exercise also provides the body with many side benefits. Exercise improves heart health and assists your body with processing glucose, which reduces your risk for heart disease and diabetes.

Exercise also helps to increase general well-being. Once you begin your exercise routine, you may notice a big difference when you neglect to exercise versus when you’re diligent and committed. Exercise also improves the mood, prevents minor aches and pains, and boosts energy and enjoyment of life. Exercise is definitely important, even for those who are already at their ideal weight.

imnotlosingweight1. Psychology

Weight loss and psychology are an important link. In most cases of overweight people, emotional reasons exist. As well, there are psychological blocks to losing weight. Not only that, but being overweight also causes emotional consequences, which cause the manifestation of even more emotional issues as the weight loss journey begins.

Therefore, it is crucial to understand why you are overweight, and then work through any emotions you may experience during weight loss.

2. Physiology

The exercise and diet plans that work for one body may not work for another. There are several physiological factors in weight loss, and they each play a significant role in a person’s success. This is why working with a physician during your weight loss journey is so important.

Any medication you are taking, as well as any disease you may have will also affect every cell in your body, ultimately helping or hindering your weight loss.

There’s no doubt that an important part of your success with weight loss will come from understanding your body and what factors are at play.

3. Physical

Finally, successful weight loss includes the incorporation of regular physical activity into your routine. This does not mean you must do a particular exercise or even perform it perfectly. Rather, it’s the act of getting your body moving on a regular basis that matters.

Understanding your body and what it can and can’t do is also an important part of your journey to a healthy weight. The physical challenges you will face during exercise will help you gain respect for your body and make weight loss part of an overall self-acceptance plan.
