What is a life coach? And what do they actually do?
It may not be something you want to hear, but the reality is many people, especially young people , don't know what to do with their lives.

A chunk of people feels directionless, which could be the reason some wonder about life coaching. Some wonder how effective it is and what it does. Others wonder if the effects are long-lasting. The following may shed light on everything you wanted to know about this profession.

What Exactly is Life Coaching?

The life coach profession can be considered many things; for example, some think it is just another counseling profession. Some people think a life coach is just a person who is attempting to get people pumped about the American dream.

The reality is this profession is more like therapy, except the goal is to help others spark the fire inside of them that empowers their goals.

It has nothing to do with reaching the American dream but rather everyone’s goals. A counselor is there to help guide others, but a life coach is there to allow each person to find the map so that they can get to their destination.

What Does a Life Coach Do?

Okay, so now that you know the purpose of this type of coaching, you are probably curious about how this person accomplishes what he or she sets out to do. First off, individuals become a client's friend. This is because the coach must get to know a client before moving forward.

The coach has several strategies to help clients define themselves. Once the client has been able to define him or herself, the client is ready to focus on identifying a goal.

The coach begins to figure out who you are in order to find the best way to motivate you to reach your goal. Most of the time, the coach creates an action plan that not only guides but adds different challenges that should help you learn how to self-motivate.

It is important to point out that there are various types of coaches, so make sure you consider the one you need:

  • A general coach deals with life in general.

  • Life balance coaches help you find a way to balance your responsibilities, along with your leisure and family time.

  • Health coaches are there to help you reach your health goals.

  • A small business coach is well-versed in business and can help you reach success.

  • Personal finance coaches are there to help you learn financial literacy.

  • Relationship coaches help you figure out what kind of person you are looking for.

It is important that the right type of coach is found, or the partnership will not be as successful. Sure, the coach should be trained, certified, and experienced, but there is much more to pairing than that.

Hiring a coach is also about making sure you connect with this person. After all, the client is going to be spending a lot of time with the coach, so it is a good idea for both to get along. It is recommended that the coach and potential client meet a few times to get to know each other to see if they are compatible.

Hopefully, some of these points make it easier for you to answer, "what does a life coach do?" There is no doubt about it; it is time-consuming work but helping to shape a person's life is not done overnight.
