There’s something therapeutic about throwing around a loaded bar with weights, isn’t there? And what better lift than the Olympic Snatch to really get yourself right after a long day of “stuff”. One of the things I love about Olympic lifting is that it all comes down to me, the bar and the lift – a head game at the best of times, but easily one of the most explosive and powerful movements in the world of sports.
The Sntach and I have a love/hate relationship. Being that it is the hardest, yet most impressive, movements in CrossFit always gets in my head. You have one opportunity to stick it, and with only a fraction of error separating a good from a failed lift. Perfection is key – and when you see someone execute a perfect snatch, it’s magical. I’ll strive for perfection in this lift… but it could be years before I have the confidence to really start pressing some serious loads… what’s your favorite lift?
Here’s a great video by California Strength (mind you a bit intimidating for the Olympic weightlifting newcomer, but remember these guys have lifted for years)
Studeo 55 (6:45am WOD) 2k Row for time
My time was 6:55.01
Lots of mobility work following.
Olympic Snatch (with full squat, not power snatch)
WOD: 10 minute AMRAP
My total was 4 rounds plus 2 reps.

Great post, Dai. Very well written. It’s amazing how good we can make ourselves feel by doing something hard (really hard). It helps a lot to recognize that good feeling and give ourselves a moment to really feel it. Because that’s what keeps us coming back. (Commitment and dedication, by themselves, don’t work nearly as well as FEELING.)
Your post reminds me of Henry Rollins’s famous piece entitled “The Iron.” Do you know it? It includes this great quote, “the iron will always kick you the real deal.”
Well done here, as always. Thanks.
It’s been so long since I’ve read that essay… thanks for the reminder! Yes, I agree, “the iron will always kick you the real deal”. Thanks for commentating. How’s your training going?
