What would you do if you were rewarded to live a healthy life? #HealthyRewards

What would you do if you were rewarded to live a healthy life? #HealthyRewards
The times they are a changing in a big, big way for Canadians. On September 27th, something huge is happening at Yonge-Dundas Square in Toronto, which will forever change the way we look at our lifestyle costs.

But before I get into that, there’s 3 questions I want you to ask yourself:

  1. WHAT IF your lifestyle costs were directly tied to your daily choices and actions?

  2. WHAT IF the companies you shopped from rewarded you for living a healthier, more active life?

  3. And, HOW WOULD YOU feel if you could see a direct ROI (return on investment) for making healthier lifestyle choices each day? (And excite you to know that your choices would improve your household’s bottom line?)

These questions paint a picture in our minds of a utopia where healthy living is rewarded above all else.

The Excuses (bad habits) we tell ourselves

For 20 years I’ve coached and mentored people on the benefits of living healthy, active lives. But for many, (me included) at times life seems overwhelmingly ‘busy’. We feel there’s never enough time in the day to do everything we want to do. Family and work commitments, shopping, cooking, cleaning, carpooling, piano lessons and soccer practices… and that’s just Monday! Finding time for health and fitness seems like an impossible concept, and even though there’s a deep-routed want to prioritize our health, we struggle with making it a reality – and ultimately part of our lifestyle.

A couple of years ago I surveyed a number of Canadians about what prevented them from living a healthier life. The majority shared these 3 obstacles:

  1. I don’t have time.

  2. I don’t know what to do.

  3. I don’t know how to do it.

In today’s technology rich culture, we have access to more information than we will ever be able to consume in our lifetime. More so, for the majority of us, we carry this technology around in our hip pockets and purses 24/7.

This begs the question,

‘WHY hasn’t anyone leveraged these technologies to both educate and incentivize us to live healthy lives?”

Well, it’s finally happening!

On September 27th in downtown Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square , join me and my family as we help launch a new program that will revolutionize the way every Canadian looks at healthy living.

What is lifestyle costs were based on choices and actions? #healthyrewards

To support us in making positive lifestyle changes, the program will focus on 3 core elements:

#1. Knowing your health: Helping to know your health is the first step in the process. It’s designed to help you understand a variety of factors influencing your current level of health and presents the results back to you in an easy-to-read summary.

#2. Improve your health: Once you have a better understanding of your health, you will get a personalized pathway to start improving your life through educational and activity-based goals.

#3. Enjoy the rewards: As you complete educational, fitness, and health-related activities, you can earn points that help you reach higher ‘health’ levels. The more points you accumulate, the more you’ll save and the greater the rewards you’ll earn.

What does choosing to live healthy mean to you?

Now, picture this…

You wake up in the morning and choose to eat a healthy breakfast and get a quick walk in before waking the kids. Kids then get up, eat a power-packed breaky, and armed with a nutritious lunch you send them off to school. You, with lunch cooler under your arm and water bottle in your bag, you make your way to work. Opting to hop off the rapid transit 3 stops early, you squeeze-in 4000 steps as you make your way to the office. At lunch, you throw on your running shoes, get a quick 20-minute power walk in, before sitting down to enjoy your freshly made salad topped with delicious pieces of sliced steak. You feel energized and empowered to crush the afternoon, before heading home to meet the kids at the local playground after school. You play a game of ‘grounders’ and ‘tag’, then home you go to enjoy a wonderful, healthy dinner together. After getting the kids to bed, you opt to forgo TV and pickup a book to feed your mind with some positive thoughts. You brush your teeth, making sure to floss, and then take 10 minutes to practice some mindful meditation before going to bed. You feel amazing and sleep a restful sleep, knowing that tomorrow will build on the greatness of the choices you made today.

This scenario sounds ideal doesn’t it? But is it realistic?

Without being mindful of personal choices and without intention behind our actions, it’s only a wish. But it is attainable and something I know we all strive for.

Qualifying what it means to be healthy is one thing, but when you can directly quantify your choices in a way that gives you direct feedback based on the choices you make – that’s powerful! And it will take the idealized wants and wishes to purposeful action.

Living healthy is a choice we can make, and with the help, accountability and proper guidance we can make positive lifestyle changes. And starting September 27th, people like you and me along with Canadians everywhere will be empowered to live healthier lifestyles and best of all, we’re going to be rewarded for doing so!
