Last year I had the amazing experience of being a spectator at the 2010 Crossfit Games. This year, I've already bought my tickets to attend the Games from July 29th to 31st at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles, California. The games, as described by the official 2011 Reebok CrossFit Games website, “is the ultimate test of fitness. The Games are a grueling multi-day, multi-event competition to determine the Fittest on Earth.”
This year I'm throwing myself into the excitement another way – as a competitor! What is very unique about the games qualification process this year is the creation of the Crossfit Games Open. Simply put, it is “a 6-week, worldwide competition in the sport of fitness. The Open is the first step in the CrossFit Games season and takes place from March 15 until April 24. There is one workout per week for six weeks, and athletes compete to outperform each other.”
New to the Crossfit community as an affiliate, Fitness Town Crossfit is registered as a host site for competitors to log and verify their workouts throughout the open challenge (by appointment). Currently at Fitness Town alone we have 5 people registered for the open – I'm stoked to be competing alongside these fire-breathers.
Let the Games begin!
