I was forced to check my ego at the door

I was forced to check my ego at the door
Wednesday proved one of the most interesting experiences I've had during my past 3 years of CrossFit.  What happened?  Well, simply put, I had to check my ego at the door.  A humbling experience in itself, and a pill I wasn't ready to swallow.  My knee jerk reaction was to quit and go home - a completely foreign concept to me, but the level of frustration I felt during this WOD was the worst I've ever experienced.

The Workout:  "Loathesome" (seems fitting doesn't it?)

5 Rounds of:

  • 1 x 15 foot L-Sit Rope Climb (start seated on the ground and make sure to climb down in L-sit position);

  • 5 x Parallelette Handstand Push-up;

  • 10 x Overhead Pistols (45lbs).

First off, what kind of crazy person programs ONE of these movements in a workout (let alone all 3)?  Now that's my bruised ego talking, but while trying to figure out the parallette handstand push-ups, it didn't take me long to figure out it's a movement I just couldn't do.  Fortunately Coach T-Bear set up a band system resembling an inverted, adult size, jolly-jumper which I was able to get into the HSPU on the parallettes and work the range of motion while limiting the load on my shoulders.

And as if that wasn't bad enough, but next when I moved on to the Overhead pistols, I realized that I couldn't do them either!  WHAT?!  Me?  Can't do a CrossFit movement?  That's insane.  No, no, it's just a reality.  And it's a reality that I relish.

"Why?" you ask.

Simple.  It's all about a challenge.  CrossFit is a FULLY scalable, dynamic, functional movement based exercise methodology.  I had to scale a WOD.  Period. I will work these weaknesses and I WILL do this WOD again as Rx'd - maybe not soon, but eventually becuase that's how I roll.  LOL!

I am CrossFit and I love it!
