10 Practical Tips for Building a Successful Career

10 Practical Tips for Building a Successful Career
We are not born to naturally succeed or fail. Success is the result of a process of living, studying, and working hard. To build a successful career, it is much more challenging because people will have to experience many different stages and need to be persistent in their goals.

If you are planning to establish your own business, below are 10 things you are advised to do to succeed in your career.

10 Tips for Building a Successful Career

1. Be aware of your core value

Being aware of your core value means you know who you are, what you should do, and where you should go. Don’t compare your experience to others because a doctor cannot repair a motorbike and a mechanic cannot work to cure human diseases. Each person has a role in society. Also, do not confuse a one-time failure and a lifetime one. Some people give up when they meet some tiny failure while they have many other chances to succeed.

Remember that you are the only and the greatest person in the world because no one can make you successful instead of yourself. If you do not allow, no one has the right to under evaluate your qualities.

2. Create good relationships

Relationships are your properties. How will you live and work without any friends or good relationships with colleagues? However, how to create good relationships is much more important. Good relationships are formed on your attitude. Please identify your co-workers’ strengths and treat them as devoted and goodwill as possible. They will respect you the same ways. Many people can do things they have never imagined thanks to the encouragement of their colleagues.

Also, practice good communication skills. Simply, change the way you listen and talk to other people, increase interactions with friends and relatives, keep in touch with a person you know in a conference, and so on. You can also try to talk with people you have lost contact for up to 6 months. Maybe a cup of coffee with your past acquaintance will bring you more opportunities.

3. Set your own goal

Imagine that you blindfold a gunner, turn him thrice and then ask him to shoot down the apple hanging over your head. Are you brave enough to let him shoot? The answer will be yes because he is blindfolded and cannot identify the target to shoot it down. And, he will lose in this game.

The same theory from this story can be applied to your career. Have you ever set a must-achieved goal for yourself? Many people have to live in extremely poor conditions when they are old just because they didn’t know what to do when they were young. If you go nowhere at your workplace when you are the 30s or 40s, you are believed to live a tough living later on. Therefore, it is essential to set short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals for your career. They are all important because, without long-term goals, you can be disoriented easily when you fail at short-term ones.

Moreover, without a goal, you will have no motivation to develop your career. That is the reason why you are living a boring and poor life.

4. Show a good attitude

According to scientists, the success of a person is decided by 15% of professional knowledge and 85% of good attitudes. Do you love your work? What do you want to learn from your work? Do you love your relatives and friends? How is your life, happy or sad, rich or poor? The answers to these questions will mostly be depended on your attitude. A positive attitude will bring you success in your career. And, remember that you have rights to decide your life and your career, not anyone else.

5. Work hard

If you do nothing apart from dreaming of a successful and wealthy life, it is just daydreaming. You can only be successful if you do practical actions. And, there is no way to succeed rather than continuously studying, working, and striving. If you do so, we can make sure that you will unexpectedly get high achievements.

6. Practice time management skill

Time is a valuable resource and you have to learn how to use it wisely and effectively. It does not mean that you have to make use of every minute or always focus on working without entertaining. Your task is to find a way to make every minute in your life meaningful. Don’t forget to spend time on yourself. Set a certain relaxing duration every day. You can go jogging, reading books, eating your favorite foods, or any other things you like. It will help you to reduce stress and revitalize your body for long-term goals.

7. Stop complicating your life

In the modern era, people often try to make everything simple such as shopping online, applying supporting technologies and tools to daily activities, etc. So, why do you have to complicate your life? You are the only person who can make your life better; therefore, just simplify your thoughts. Do what you believe to be true, eat what you like, listen to your favorite songs, and so on. Remember that you will soon be failed if you think too much and try to satisfy every people.

8. Balance your work and life

Your career is very important but it should not always be your priority. To work well, you need to be happy first. Your family plays a very important role in your career success. It is because everything you do does not benefit yourself, it benefits your family and society. Also, you will get good working results if you get regular encouragement from your relatives. In contrast, if you have a conflict with your wife this evening, for example, you will never work well the next whole day because you are having a very bad mood.

Therefore, work-life balance is one of the most important know-how to be successful in your career.

9. Don’t overwork

Warren Buffet – the Sage of Omaha and the world’s greatest moneymaker – once said that he didn’t want to jump over a 2-meter high fence, he only chose a 30-centimeter high one to step through.

A too big plan will soon make you tired and bored. So, why don’t you choose a simpler but more suitable job? Like a happy family, doing works you like will help you find more meanings of life. Each one has his dream but you have to determine whether your dream is too big or not. Start with small and possible-to-implement things and gradually promote.

10. Turn off all electronic devices 1 hour before bed

Electronic devices can negatively affect your sleep quality. Therefore, stay away from your phone, tablet, television, and other devices at least one hour before bedtime to ensure you a sound sleep. Remember that sleeping well is vital to re-energize your mental and physical health. A sound night sleep will help you be more alert to solve problems; thereby, increasing your workplace productivity.

You have only one life to live, so it is high time for you to change your living style. Reconsider your core value and start to work. Remember to always be strict, determined, and persistent in order not to be regretful even when you fail. When you are serious enough, you are sure to be successful in your career.
