With Fearless Planning You Really Can Pursue Your Dream

With Fearless Planning You Really Can Pursue Your Dream
You've probably overheard people wondering how life might have turned out if they'd had the courage to turn a dream into a reality. It happens to us all some time.

But what is it that holds us back?

Usually, I've found that it's a sense of the unknown. It's fear.

It's worrying about the consequences of your ideas collapse. But time after time, ordinary people like you and me find the courage to take that first step towards fulfilling an ambition.

But how have they discovered the secret of courage?

I'll give you a few clues.

To follow your dream you do need to be positive and bold. But what you need to avoid is recklessness. And most importantly, you can implement these steps by simple planning.

Is Your Dream your Passion?

Have you ever noticed that most of the people who chase their dreams are consumed by a passion for what they love to do?

Think of Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft.

Back in 1975, before personal computers had the remotest chance of becoming commonplace, everyday items, Bill was convinced that one day they'd be in every home. At the age of just twenty, he even dropped out of college to pursue his dream with a devoted passion that actually turned his idea into a reality. It was a huge risk for such a young man to take, but he had a safety plan. He'd go back to Harvard and complete his studies if things didn't work out.

Suddenly, his journey into the unknown wasn't quite so scary because he knew he had another option. Your own dream might not be as gigantic as Bill's, but it could still be your passion. Remember, every dream has its worth. And by devoting some thought to formulating a plan, you've taken the first step towards making it happen.

Identifying Your Dream

I'm a firm believer that we all have talents hidden within us. The secret to following a dream is identifying those skills and doing what we're good at. In the late nineteenth century, John D. Rockefeller who came from a poor, dysfunctional family, realized he had a talent for identifying a promising business deal. He had an instinct that oil could make him a fortune and made calculated, planned risks to investing money.

As a tribute to his incredible success, his name is a byword for immense wealth. Perhaps you want to achieve huge financial success but think for a moment about what you know you can accomplish. Is it cooking delicious food or growing beautiful flowers?

You could even combine these ideas by delivering wholesome food and decorative flower arrangements for special occasions. It's important to identify your positive strengths. Even if they seem humble, they are the talents that are more likely to turn your dream of success into a reality.

Fitting Your Dream to Your Circumstances

Many of us have some sort of responsibility that we need to be aware of. You could have very young children, elderly parents, or a house full of adoring pets that all need to be considered when you disrupt the routine they've always known.

However, by planning, you can still achieve your goals.

Arrange for reliable child care if you need more time to devote to your project. Ask friends and relatives to contribute more to help your parents. If you can tailor your dream to use your home as its base, then your pets will enjoy more of your company than ever before.

Making plans before taking the exciting step towards your dream will help you achieve success.

Being Bold when You're on Your Own

If you've been used to working in a busy environment, interacting with colleagues as part of a team, the sudden realization that giving up your job to pursue your dream on your own is frightening. Sharing your dream with others can provide the extra encouragement you need to give yourself the strength to take a risk.

What did Barack Obama do when campaigning for his first presidency of 2009?

He enlisted the help of millions of supporters.

If you remember, during his rallies everyone chanted his catchphrase of "Yes, We Can!" over and over. He didn't pursue his dream on his own because his personal journey became a shared vision. It's clear evidence that with the right encouragement, a positive attitude can bring successful results.

Removing the Fear

Following the unknown path towards your dream can seem very scary. That's why most of us never take that first step towards our goals. You need to convince yourself that what you are doing is the right course of action. That's where planning is all-important.

Think about your dream like a journey along a road. Imagine there are different markers along with it, each one representing the next phase of making your dream a reality. Then write out your road map on a sheet of paper and pin it to your kitchen wall where you can see it. It will keep reminding you that your dream is actually realistic.

It could look something like this:

  • Identify what I can really do well

  • Do I need to take a course to refine my skills?

  • I have a plan in reserve in case things don't go as they should

  • Does my dream fit in with my current circumstances?

  • Do I have the funds to make an investment?

  • Can I succeed?

  • Yes, I can!

There Is No Time Like The Present

There's no time like the present.

Cliched, but true.

Reverse this phrase, and say instead, there's no present like the time.

Every minute of every day, from dawn until dusk, is a gift and ought to be viewed as such.

If those grains of sand in the hourglass draining away until our life's end is really so precious, then shouldn't we be using them to follow our dreams?

It is important to avoid procrastination.

Everyone suffers from procrastination, even the most intelligent people. It's been shown that those of us with higher IQs and a greater tendency to analyze are in turn more likely to sit around waiting for something better to come along. We say we're going out for a run in the early afternoon, then before we know it, it's 5 pm. It's too dark.

How will the traffic see me?

Never mind. Tomorrow is a new day.

If you want to achieve your dream, you need to seize the day and put steps in place to reach your goal.

Finally Taking a Risk

So, you've worked through your list and made realistic plans. The big moment has arrived when you're ready to take a deep breath and finally follow your dream.

Whatever it is, just think that it can't possibly be as scary as when Yuri Gagarin, a former factory worker, became the first man to travel into outer space in 1961, completely on his own.

Self-belief, confidence, and meticulous planning gave him the reassurance of completing a safe journey. Planning how you'll put your dream into action removes fear and doubt. It gives you the courage to finally take the risk and follow your dream.
