6 Fitness Goals to Set For the New Year

#6 Step Outside the Comfort Zone

Have you ever thought of something that you wanted to do, but you didn't want to do it because you didn't feel comfortable doing it?  Well, it's time to challenge your body to do something that you're not comfortable with.  Whether you want to hike the Appalachian Trail or climb a mountain in your town, it's time to STOP making excuses.

#5  Have Fun

Fitness doesn't have to mean running on the treadmill every morning staring at a concrete wall.  If you're not having fun while working out, it's time to switch things up.  To have fun, consider things like Zumba, an adult sports league or a fun marathon.  By having fun, you're going to kick boredom to the curb, and you're going to make exercise a lot more enjoyable.

#4 Start Training for Something Challenging

Have you ever wanted to run a 5k?  Well, if you're not in shape for it, it's going to be hard to run it.  If you've been thinking about doing something big, take the upcoming year to start training.  Whether it's that 12-mile bike ride or 3.1-mile run, adventure race , training for something big is something to feel proud of.

#3 Become a Master

Do you have a passion for something?  Whether it's biking or swimming, try to become the next Michael Phelps of your sport.  By mastering something, it's going to boost your confidence and take your fitness to another level.  When mastering something, try to obtain certifications, learn from top instructors and attend local seminars.

#2 Go on an Adventure

Staying fit doesn't mean that you have to go to your home gym every day to see results.  If you really want to mix things up, consider taking a fitness vacation.  This could be done by visiting national parks, attending a fitness-based festival or even working out on the beach on an exotic beach.  It's up to you to be creative when thinking about a trip you want to take advantage of.

#1 Write Down Your Goals

Before the New Year begins, write down five to 10 things you want to accomplish that relates to your health.  This could be anything from eating better, losing 10 pounds or joining the gym.  With that list, put the most important on the top, followed by the second and so forth.  As long as you give yourself a reasonable timeline, there's no reason you can't accomplish your new-found goals.

[box type="info" align="aligncenter" ] Did you know that 73 percent of people who set fitness goals after the New Year give up within a few months?  If you don't want to become the majority, keep these fun goals in mind to watch your body transform. [/box]
